Choosing the Right Gym for You

Finding the right gym is part of the reason that people find working out such a struggle. We all have different types of schedules and thus different amenities we look for when deciding on the right gym.

Some of us look for a gym that opens early and closes late, others are looking for a day care, there are those that desire a basketball court, showers and sauna and then you find those that just want a treadmill and weights.

One gym that you'll find in just about every city you go to is LA Fitness. There are over 160 locations nationwide that include: full basketball courts, indoor cycling, Kids' Klub services, a heated lap pool and spa along with a variety of classes that members can join for free.

Gold's Gym seems to be yet another popular gym to join for its convenient 600 locations. "With nearly 3 million members world wide, Gold's Gym continues to change lives by helping people achieve their individual potential," stated their site.

No matter where you live, there are gyms that have just what YOU need. Check out Health Club Directory for a list of gyms in your area.

Race for the Cure

Exercise isn't something that all of us are willing and desiring to do on a regular basis, but there are circumstances in which exercise can serve more than one purpose. According to Palm Beach Post, "more than 23,000 participated in the 16th annual South Florida Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday, Jan. 20, in downtown West Palm Beach." The Saturday race raised more than $500,000 for Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Nancy Brinker started the foundation in 1982 after her sister Susan died of breast cancer in 1980.

There are ways in which one can lower the risks of breast cancer such as losing excess pounds, if you're overweight. As of right now, there are no sure measures to prevent breast cancer, but there are ways in reducing the chances. For more information check out Lower Your Risk.

Healthy Eating for Children

According to the American Obesity Association, "obesity in children and adolescents is a serious issue with many health and social consequences that often continue into adulthood."

Although there are some things, such as genetics, that can not be controlled, there are ways in which parents can assist in decreasing the numbers of childhood obesity. Increasing physical activity and regulating eating habits are essential elements in aiding children's overall health.

An important factor to correcting obesity is to teach children proper eating habits at a young age, as it gets that much more difficult to change with age. Everything a child learns, including nutrition, begins in the home and is something parents should take great effort in providing.

We all can remember getting home from school and wanting to chow down on fruit roll-ups and potatoe chips, but those weren't the best after school snacks. This is not to say that children can never eat them, but there are other things children can eat that are healthy. Enjoy the fun list of creative snacks that kids can have just as much fun making as eating.
